Maddison, Leicester ‘front runners’ to sign £20million-rated Championship forward

Leicester ‘front runners’ to sign £20million-rated Championship forward

The Leicester Mercury reports that Leicester City are the ‘front runners’ in the race for Norwich City playmaker James Maddison. The England Under-21 international has also attracted the attentions of Everton and newly promoted Fulham.

The 21-year-old however does seem set to exit Carrow Road this summer and try his hand at Premier League football for the first time. He has made a big impression since being handed an opportunity in the starting eleven with Norwich, and the Premier League has since come calling for Maddison.

The former Coventry City star would have a decision to make. Leicester are said to be ahead in the chase for him. They too have been linked with Jack Grealish of Aston Villa, surely there would not be room for the two of them in the same squad? Everton are now managed by Marco Silva, but they can only sell before they buy, during which time Maddison may focus attentions elsewhere. Fulham play an attractive brand of football that would suit Maddison to try ground. It could be argued he may not fit into their side with the likes of Tom Cairney already present.

The Sky Bet Championship club rate the player in at least the £20million bracket. Many clubs in the top flight would be willing to pay this price for the highly-rated attacking midfielder. He was nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Year Award, in a Norwich side that ultimately flirted around mid-table for the duration. He was certainly a shining light in Daniel Farke’s side, and the German may soon have to start planning for life without the one time Aberdeen loanee.
