Five potential candidates to replace Darren Ferguson at Doncaster Rovers

Darren Ferguson has resigned has manager of Doncaster Rovers. Here are five potential candidates to replace him at the League One side-

Stuart McCall- He is available after he was sacked by Bradford City in February, despite them being sixth in the league at the time. The Scottish boss guided the Bantams to the League One Play-Off final in 2017 and could be handed a route back into the game with Doncaster Rovers. He has also previously managed Motherwell and Rangers.

Neil Redfearn- The 52-year-old played for Doncaster in his playing days and is currently manager of Doncaster Rovers Belles Ladies Football Club. He is an experienced boss who has been in charge of Leeds United in the past and is an option for Doncaster.

Paul Heckingbottom- He was sacked by Leeds United last week and is now available. He guided Barnsley to promotion from League One and the Football League Trophy in 2016 so has the experience of being successful in the third tier before so would suit Doncaster.

Simon Grayson- The experienced boss has bags of experience at League One level and has won promotion from this level on four occasions with Blackpool, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Preston North End. He is free after leaving Bradford City at the end of the season.

Richie Wellens, Oldham Athletic- He had two separate spells at Doncaster as a player and could be targeted by them. The 38-year-old is currently manager of Oldham Athletic but could not prevent them from being relegated to League Two last season, despite making a positive impact at the start.
