Ex-Barnsley and Leeds United boss odds-on favourite for the Bradford City job

Paul Heckingbottom is the 4/6 favourite for the Bradford City job on SkyBet.

The 40-year-old boss is available after being sacked by Championship side Leeds United last week after just four months in charge at Elland Road. He now looks set for a route back into management with fellow Yorkshire side Bradford City.

The Bantams are in the hunt for a new manager after Simon Grayson left at the end of last season. Other names such as Grant McCann, Hannes Wolf and David Hopkin have been linked, but it now looks like Heckingbottom is their number one target.

Heckingbottom has experience of being promoted from third tier before with Barnsley in 2016 when he guided them to promotion after winning the League One Play-Off final. He also won the Football League Trophy in the same season and kept Barnsley up in their first campaign back in the Championship.

Bradford City have taken their time in appointing a new boss and may have found their man now, as their target next season in to gain promotion to the Championship and Heckingbottom has done it before.

Heckingbottom also knows Bradford City as a club after spending three separate spells at the club in his playing days. He also played for the likes of Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City, Darlington and Mansfield Town as a defender.

His time at Leeds United has come to a premature end but Heckingbottom could get his career back on track in League One with Bradford City.
