Bolton Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Walsall midfielder Erhun Oztumer, according to the Bolton News.
The 27-year-old’s contract is up at League One side Walsall at the end of the month meaning he is available on a free transfer. He has been linked with Preston North End, Bradford City and Blackburn Rovers but it now looks like Bolton will win the race for him.
The Trotters stayed up in the Championship last season in dramatic fashion under Phil Parkinson. They are now looking to bolster their squad to help establish themselves in the second tier.
Erhun Oztumer has impressed in the lower leagues in recent years and will finally get his chance in the Championship now. The Walsall man has been named the “Turkish Messi” and he is an entertaining footballer.
He played for Charlton Athletic and Fisher Athletic before he moved to Turkey for spells at Manisaspor and Sivasspor. He moved to Turkish fourth tier side Üsküdar Anadolu and became a key player for them in his one season there.
Oztumer moved back to England in 2012 to join non-league side Dulwich Hamlet. He was prolific for them in the Isthmian Premier Division and scored 60 goals in two seasons for them in all competitions. This earned him a move to Peterborough United in 2014.
He then moved to Walsall after two seasons with the Posh and he managed 32 goals in 95 games for the Saddlers in an impressive two campaigns with them. Oztumer now will look to make a name for himself in the Championship with Bolton Wanderers.
