Sheffield United and Reading will not be signing Plymouth Argyle’s Ruben Lameiras according to a report from the Plymouth Herald.

Lameiras had been one of the best Plymouth players this season, being a key reason why the Pilgrims performed so well in the second half of the season and got close to a place in the Sky Bet League One play-offs. He would go on to score six goals in 31 appearances with one particular performance against Southend United where he scored twice being fondly remembered by fans.

With performances of this level, it’s no surprise that teams from the Sky Bet Championship became interested in him. Sheffield United have had success signing from the leagues below before and believed that adding a talented player like Lameiras could improve their side. Reading are coming off the back of a disappointing season and are looking to add more quality players to make sure they don’t end up in another fight against relegation. Reports over the weekend linked these two sides to the former Tottenham Hotspur man and it seemed like either side could grab a bargain with him being valued at £300K.

But it appears that neither side will be signing Lameiras this summer. This report has said that even though his contract is set to expire next summer that he is happy to stay with Plymouth and that he does not want to move so soon after signing for them. And so it seems like United and Reading will have to look elsewhere if they want a quality playmaker.
