Breaking News – John Terry’s Villa future revealed

It has been announced in the last ten minutes that John Terry will be leaving Aston Villa this summer. The club had the option of a one-year extension if promotion had been achieved, this didn’t happen and today’s news confirms Terry won’t be part of Aston Villa going forward.

Terry captained Aston Villa on Saturday as they fell to a 0-1 defeat to Fulham, Tom Cairney breaking Villa hearts in the first-half. Terry was expected to leave due to serious concerns over the financial situation at Villa Park, the club having failed with two promotion attempts despite ploughing huge finances into the playing squad.

Steve Bruce confirmed he would speak to Terry earlier this week to decide how he and the club would move forward and it seems to have been resolved extremely quickly. Terry’s future has been in question for some time and it all seemed to hinge on what happened at Wembley on bank holiday weekend.

There is no clear answer as to what next for the ex-England captain but given his performances this season it would seem like he has the legs for another challenge whatever that may be. Villa are expected to have a mini clear-out this summer with the wages needing to be reduced and the money to spend also significantly lower. Terry didn’t achieve hat he and the club set out to do last summer, the Championship doesn’t bow to money and this is another clear example of that.

Villa signed some very good Championship players but have just failed to get over the line and perhaps a change in strategy this summer and moving forward isn’t the worst thing. Keeping John Terry would have been a huge boost but that won’t be the case. The question is now, what next for John Terry?
