Newcastle United, Burnley and Celtic battle it out for West Brom defender

Premier League sides Burnley and Newcastle United are currently leading the race to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson, but face stiff competition from Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, who have also shown an interest in the versatile defender.

West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League has left the door open for a number of first team players to leave the club, and Dawson is one of those who is expected to move on.

Dawson has played over 150 times for the Baggies since joining the club back in 2010. He joined the club from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee after an excellent season for the North West side in the fourth tier of English football.

The former England under 21 international was loaned to Bolton Wanderers in 2013, but apart from that he has been a regular in the West Brom side ever since he moved to the Hawthorns.

The 28-year-old represented the England Under 21 side 15 times, scoring an impressive six goals. He was also part of the Great Britain side for the 2012 London Olympics, featuring three times for Stuart Pearce’s side.

Despite West Brom’s woeful season in the top flight which ended in relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship, Dawson appears to have done enough to impress a number of teams, and he looks set to remain in the Premier League.

Popular bookmakers Bet Victor have named Burnley as the favourites to sign him with odds of 2/1, whilst Newcastle United and Celtic are narrowly lagging just behind at 3/1 and 5/1 respectively.
