Wigan Athletic set to sign Portsmouth winger

Wigan Athletic are set to sign Portsmouth’s Kal Naismith according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

Naismith has been at Portsmouth since 2015 and has been a key player during his three years at the club. He was an important player as Pompey finally climbed out of Sky Bet League Two and he has continued to be an impressive player for them now that they are in Sky Bet League One. The 26-year-old winger made 31 appearances this season, scoring three goals.

But he now looks set to leave the south coast to join up with a manager he is very familiar with. Latics head coach Paul Cook has been a big fan of Naismith for a while having been the man who signed him for Portsmouth back in 2015. And now that he is at Wigan, he believes that Naismith will be a great player for him there as they close in on signing him.

For Naismith, this will be one of the biggest challenges of his career. Wigan were promoted to the Sky Bet Championship after becoming the champions of League One and they will be determined to stay there this time. Naismith has never competed at this level with this season being his first taste of League One, so he will have to adjust quickly should he complete this move to Wigan. But with the talent and ability he has shown during his time in the EFL, not many will doubt that he will be able to become a great player in the Championship.
