Aston Villa man dealt injury blow ahead of next season

Aston Villa midfielder Callum O’Hare has been dealt an injury blow which could see him out for 10 weeks and potentially miss the start of next season, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The midfielder had impressed during his time with the U23 squad this campaign and, with a good pre-season, he was expected to push for a place in the Villains first time.

He sustained knee ligament damage in China during the Hong Kong Sevens.

He landed awkwardly on his knee during the tournament, and was assessed upon arrival back in England, but was told that surgery was unnecessary.

O’Hare saw a specialist last week and he is expected to miss all of pre-season with Steve Bruce’s side.

He had recently won the Aston Villa Academy Player of the Year after his good form this season, which had not gone unnoticed by the Villa boss.

As well as this, his injury also potentially scuppers a loan move away from the Midlands in order to secure first team football.

The youngster made eight appearances for the club last season and his progress has been continually monitored by the staff at Villa’s training ground Bodymoor Heath.

The 20 year old’s versatility is a major attribute which makes him an attractive proposition for managers who are looking to take O’Hare on loan.

He can play as an attacking midfielder or as a striker if need be.

It’s a big knock back for the Villa man ahead of next season, but he will surely remain a part of Steve Bruce’s plans when he regains full fitness.
