Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic in race to sign Bristol City goalkeeper

Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic are in a race to sign Bristol City’s Frank Fielding according to a report from The Bolton News.

Fielding has been at Bristol City since 2013 and while he had a shaky start to life at Ashton Gate, he soon hit form and became a mainstay in between the sticks for the Robins. But his future in the West Country is uncertain. Bristol City have been looking to sign another goalkeeper with reports linking with a move for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson after he performed well at a loan spell with Shrewsbury Town. And Fielding is reportedly looking to return to the North West in the near future.

This has piqued the interest of Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan as they look to strengthen ahead of a season in the Sky Bet Championship. Rovers would most likely be the favourite to sign Fielding. This is the club where he started his career after being born in the town and heading back to that part of Lancashire would be a great homecoming for him. It would be extra sweet as he never made a first team appearance there in his first spell and could become their number one upon his return.

However both Bolton and Wigan will still think they have a decent shot of signing Fielding. Bolton need a new goalkeeper after they decided to release Mark Howard this summer while Wigan are needing a shot stopper as Christian Walton returned to Brighton and Hove Albion after his loan spell with the Latics ended.
