North London rivals battling it out for Swansea City defender

It looks set to be a summer of changes at Welsh side Swansea City following their relegation from the Premier League in the 2017/18 season, with many of the club’s star players expected to leave the Liberty Stadium.

Ki Sung-yueng, Lukasz Fabianski, and the Ayew brothers are all expected to leave the club this transfer window, with Alfie Mawson another name that looks set to depart.

Mawson has been linked with a move away from the club since last summer following an impressive debut season for the Swans.

Mawson joined Swansea City from Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley. During his time with the Tykes, he helped them to win the Football League trophy, and the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final at Wembley against Millwall.

He caught the attention of Swansea, and after just four second tier appearances, the Welsh side decided to take a risk, and signed him for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old central defender slotted straight in at the heart of Swansea’s defence, and his performances in his first year attracted the attention from a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

And whilst Liverpool’s interest in bringing in the former England under 21 youth international is said to be faint, Arsenal are still reported to be extremely interested in signing Mawson, and have been given odds of 10/1 by bookmakers Bet Victor.

However, they face stiff competition from their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have been made clear favourites to sign Mawson with odds of 2/1.

Mawson is yet to represent the senior England team, but did earn a call-up to the squad back in March 2018.
