Hull City fans have been posting their memories of their 2008 Play-Off final win over Bristol City ten years ago today.
The Tigers won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history after a 1-0 win at Wembley. Dean Windass’ superb volley in the 39th minute was enough to secure a famous promotion for his home-town club under Phil Brown.
A lot has happened in the ten years since this game for the Tigers. Hull City have been promotion a further two times and relegated three times from the top flight. They have since returned to Wembley for an FA Cup Semi-Final against Sheffield United and an FA Cup final versus Arsenal, as well another Championship Play-Off final against Sheffield Wednesday. The Tigers have also played in the Europa League for the first time.
Hull fans will tell you that the 2008 Play-Off final changed everything for them as a club who had spent their history in the basement divisions of the Football League. Here is what they have said about their famous win ten years ago today-
Been to Wembley four times, travelled the length and breadth of the country to grounds big and small, seen #hcafc in an FA Cup Final, the Europa League and beating the biggest clubs in the land but nothing will ever top May 24th 2008. The best day.

10 years ago today I witnessed the sweetest volley I’ve ever seen! What a day and what a team that was #hcafc

What today shows is how good following #hcafc is when it’s really good, and why it’s worth riding out the current mismanagement of the club. When everyone at Hull City pulls in the same direction, we can move mountains. We’ve done it once, we’ll do it again.
