Godden, Peterborough United target placed on transfer list

Peterborough United target placed on transfer list

Stevenage striker Matt Godden has been placed on the transfer list by the Sky Bet League Two club, amidst reports linking him with a move to third tier side Peterborough United.

The Posh are well known for breeding their striking talent, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle and Craig Mackail-Smith all having played at London Road before moving on to bigger and better things, and Posh boss Steve Evans is currently looking for the next star to do that with.

They certainly found one last summer in the form of Jack Marriott. They signed the 23-year-old from Sky Bet League Two side Luton Town, and it is fair to say he was relatively unknown to Posh fans.

However, he soon made himself known, scoring a hat-trick in his second league start away at Bristol Rovers, and a brace in his second home game at home to this season’s Play-Off Finalists Rotherham United.

This was just the start for Marriott, who went on to score 27 league goals for Peterborough, earning him the golden boot for the third tier, and linking him with a move away from the club.

And whilst Marriott seems destined to move on to the Sky Bet Championship this season, Matt Godden looks set to replace him, with a move looking even more likely after he was placed on the transfer list by current club Stevenage this morning.

On the club’s official website, Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: “We have twice offered Matt a significantly improved new contract to stay with us for another couple of years but he has politely refused that, so we won’t stand in his way if we get the right offer during the transfer window.”
