Aston Villa in pole position to sign Leeds United target

Aston Villa are in pole position to secure the signing of highly sought after free agent Abel Hernandez, despite interest from a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs, including Leeds United.

The Bristol Post reports that the Uruguayan striker favours a move that will see him reunite himself with former manager Steve Bruce, and potentially play Premier League football, should the Midlands club see off Fulham in next Saturday’s (May 26) Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final.

Abel Hernandez has been linked with a number of clubs after it was confirmed that he would not be renewing his contract at current club Hull City.

His deal at the Tigers runs out in June, and he is currently free to talk to a number of clubs, with previous reports suggest a deal is already in place to sign for Scottish Premier League champions Celtic.

However, these reports appear to have been rubbished, and it seems that Hernandez, who originally joined Hull for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, will move south, and join the manager who sealed his move to England in the first place.

The Bristol Post reports that his move to Villa Park rests heavily on their ability to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

‘The most expensive game in football’ takes place at Wembley next week, as Villa meet Fulham for a place in the top flight.

Both sides have experience of what it means to play in the Premier League, and both will be desperate to return there.
