Top 50 Players of the EFL – 16th: Junior Hoilett (Cardiff City)

Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett has been voted by you as the 16th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Hoilett is the 16th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

It seems like such a long time ago now but Hoilett was once regarded as one of the top prospects of British football. His form for Blackburn Rovers was top class even when the team was less so and there were even reports that one of the top four might have gone in to sign him. In the end when Hoilett left Blackburn Rovers he signed for QPR but that spell did not go well for him and it damaged his reputation by a huge amount.

He found his way to Cardiff in 2016 after being a free agent for a few months and it has turned out to be a fantastic signing for the Bluebirds. He has been a fantastic winger from the start to the end of the season with his creativity on the flanks being a key reason why Cardiff got promoted this season. In his 50 appearances this season he scored 11 goals and he was able to match that with 11 assists as well.

Now that Hoilett is returning to the Premier League he’ll hope to prove why so many marked him out as a man for the future.
