Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers keen on Blackpool duo

Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers are both keen on Blackpool duo Kelvin Mellor and Clark Robertson, according to Sky Sports.

Both Mellor and Robertson are out of contract at League One side Blackpool next month and will become available for free. They are attracting interest from Wigan and Blackburn, who will be both playing in the Championship next season. Bolton Wanderers are also believed to be monitoring Mellor and Robertson’s situation as well.

Kelvin Mellor has impressed for Blackpool in the third tier this season at right-back. He has played for the Seasiders since 2016 and helped them get promoted from League Two in his first full season in charge.

The 27-year-old started his career at Nantwich Town before moving to Crewe Alexandra in 2008. He played just under 100 games for the Railwaymen and was snapped up by Plymouth Argyle in 2014. Mellor spent two years with the Pilgrims before joining Blackpool.

Clark Robertson has had a solid season alongside Mellor in the Blackpool defence this season. The 24-year-old has been with the Seasiders since 2015 after joining them from Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen. He has represented Scotland Under-19 and Under-21 level.

Both Wigan and Blackburn will be looking to bolster their defence ahead of their Championship campaigns next season. Both Mellor and Robertson would be shrewd signings on a free transfer with it looking like they will leave Blackpool.
