Top 50 Players of the EFL – 24th: Leon Clarke (Sheffield United)

Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke has been voted by you as the 24th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Clarke is the 24th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

It was fair to call Clarke a journeyman. He has never been outright terrible at any of the teams he had been at, he usually had a good goal scoring record, but for whatever reason he has never stuck around and soon finds himself at a new club. But he ended up being a revelation at Sheffield United and made the fans at Bramall Lane forget that he has also pulled on the shirt of their rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

And upon their return to the Sky Bet Championship he has got even better, becoming one of the most feared strikers in the division. He would score 19 goals in 39 appearances, making him the joint third highest scorer in the league, tied with Bobby Reid and behind Lewis Grabban and Matej Vydra. For a 33-year-old striker that most had written off it was a fantastic achievement which made those critics suddenly disappear. A stunning four goal performance against Hull City shocked plenty who have been familiar with Clarke in the past and some said it was like watching a different player this season.
