Top 50 Players of the EFL – 25th: Conor Coady (Wolves)

Wolves defender Conor Coady has been voted by you as the 25th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Coady is the 25th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

We’ve already had Willy Boly on this list who proved himself to be a great defender after signing on loan for Wolves this summer. However there is a particular irony with all the money that Wolves spent over the year that one of their best players was already on the squad. Conor Coady had been with the team since 2015 after signing from Sheffield United and even though the rest of the squad was packed with highly paid for quality, it was Coady who shined brightest.

He was a truly modern defender this season as he wasn’t just the prototypical big bruiser of a defender. He did stop a lot of attacking moves but one of his main strengths was that because of his passing ability, he was able to turn defence into attack very quick. The amount of teams that were caught out by this was immeasurable. During the season he would make 47 appearances, scoring one goal and putting in starring performances against the likes of Bolton Wanderers, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday.

Coady will hope to show he is Premier League quality next year after Wolves were promoted this season.
