Elder, Wigan planning bid for Leicester defender

Wigan planning bid for Leicester defender

Wigan are planning a move to bring Callum Elder back to the DW Stadium on a permanent basis.

Boss Paul Cook was impressed with the full-back as he helped the Latics claim the Sky League 1 title in the 2017/18 campaign and promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

During the player’s loan time at the club, he featured in 33 games in all competitions for Wigan and chipped in with a goal and three assists.

According to the Leicester Mercury, Paul Cook now wants to bring the 23-year old back to the DW Stadium.

However, the full-back has impressed that much with the Latics that he is also being tracked by several other Championship clubs meaning Wigan shall have to move quick if they want to sign him.

The Leicester defender has also played for Barnsley and Brentford on loan in the past but has yet to play a game for the Foxes despite being at the club for his entire playing career.

The 23-year old has just one year left on his current Leicester deal and if he decides not to pen a new deal with the club, he could be available to any potential suitors for less money.

Currently though, his position in the Foxes squad isn’t guaranteed. Ben Chilwell currently plays in the left-back position and Christian Fuchs – who also plays in that position – has acknowledged that he may not get gametime and he’s agreed to leave the club.

Therefore, Callum Elder could decide to move back to Wigan or to another Championship time in search of gametime.
