Reading manager could be heading to Champions League side

Paul Clement has not been in charge of Sky Bet Championship side Reading for a particularly long time, but he could soon be on his way out of the club.

The former Derby County and Swansea City boss joined the Royals in March of this year, taking over from Jaap Stam who lost his job after failing to deliver a season that was anywhere near as successful as the 2016/17 campaign, which saw the Berkshire club reach the Play-Off final.

Despite being at the club for less than two months, the Mirror reports that Clement’s time at the Madejski Stadium could be over in the coming days.

According to the rumours section of the online newspaper, Carlo Ancelotti is being touted as the favourite to move to Napoli, who look set to lose their manager.

Maurizio Sarri is being linked with a move to Chelsea, as Antonio Conte’s future becomes increasingly uncertain.

If this does happen, then the Italian side, who finished second in Calcio A this year, will be looking to bring Clement in as Ancelotti’s assistant manager, reuniting the two men who have an extremely successful past together.

The pair have worked together at some of the biggest clubs in world football, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid just a few names on that list.

The pair also won the league together in their first season together at Chelsea, as well as lifting the Champions League trophy in their first year with each other at Real Madrid.

Having got a taste of being a manager rather than an assistant, it remains unclear what Paul Clement’s stance on the matter is, but it may be hard for him to turn down a move to such a big club.
