Marriott, Leeds United made favourites to sign prolific goalscorer

Leeds United made favourites to sign prolific goalscorer

Bet Victor have made Leeds United favourites to sign Peterborough United’s star striker Jack Marriott.

The Posh front man is the Football League’s top goal scorer, with 27 league goals and 33 in all competitions, and his performances in the third tier of English football have attracted attention from a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs, but it seems that Leeds United are currently in the driving seat.

They have been given odds of 4/1 to land the Sky Bet League One golden boot winner, with Sheffield Wednesday just behind on 5/1.

Meanwhile, Sky Bet Championship rivals Derby County and Nottingham Forest have both been given odds of 6/1.

Despite Peterborough United boss Steve Evans making it clear that he would love to keep hold of his top scorer in an interview with the Peterborough Telegraph, both he and chairman Darragh MacAnthony have acknowledged that it will be next to impossible.

It was Jack Marriott’s first season in the third tier, after he joined Peterborough United from Sky Bet League Two side Luton Town for an undisclosed fee.

He got off to a brilliant start, and never looked back. He scored a hat-trick in just his second league game for Posh, before netting a brace against Play-Off side Rotherham United.

His consistency throughout the season has attracted a host of clubs, and Darragh MacAnthony confirmed in January that he had rejected bids in the region of £4 million for Marriott, as they did not match their valuation of the player.

More news coming out of Peterborough United today has seen Marcus Maddison being placed on the transfer list by the Cambridgeshire club.
