Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 5th: John Coleman (Accrington Stanley)

Accrington Stanley head coach John Coleman has been voted by you as the 5th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Coleman is the 5th best manager in the Football League. This is he first time he has been on the Top 20 Managers countdown.
While Accrington is one of the more famous clubs in the lower divisions of the EFL, it’s not because of anything they have done football-wise. It’s all because of an advert for milk and the famous quote from it saying “Accrington Stanley, who are they?” which has marked them as a team to remember in the past. The club have been haunted by it ever since and all because an ad-man thought they were the symbol of crappy football teams.
But this year Accrington showed they were more than an old advert by being one of the surprises of the season. They are expected to be a non-entity in Sky Bet League Two but they showed they were a team to be feared by consistently winning games throughout the season. And by doing that, they just kept on ploughing until they won the league title and sealed promoted to Sky Bet League One, something no one could really believe considering their size.
Next season Coleman will be hoping to make sure that Accrington stay in League One and don’t get relegated right back into League Two.
