Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 14th: Danny Cowley (Lincoln City)

Lincoln City head coach Danny Cowley has been voted by you as the 14th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Cowley is the 17th best manager in the Football League. This is his first time on the Top 20 Managers of the EFL list.

Cowley was on all the back pages last season after he guided Lincoln to a historic FA Cup quarter-final, beating the likes of Ipswich Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley before eventually being beaten by Arsenal. And while it was that run which got Cowley all the attention, he was probably happier when he was the man who finally got the Imps out of non-league football and back into Sky Bet League Two.

And Lincoln have looked at home back in the EFL, challenging at the top of the league instantly after their return. They have been in and around the top seven all season and while they didn’t get another historic run in the FA Cup, they did go on to win the Checkatrade Trophy, beating Sky Bet League One’s surprise package Shrewsbury Town in the final. And in the league they would finish 7th, sealing a place in the play-offs.

Lincoln’s season is not done yet as they will be hoping to beat Exeter City in the play-offs to get them to the final and a chance of being promoted to Sky Bet League One.
