Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 15th: Lee Johnson (Bristol City)
Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has been voted by you as the 15th best manager in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Johnson is the 15th best manager in the Football League. This is his first time on the Top 20 Managers of the EFL list.
Before the start of the season, not many were expecting much out of Bristol City. If they came up in pre-season predictions, it was because some pundits believed they were heading for the drop. However Johnson defied the critics and guided his Robins side to a successful season. For most of the season they were in the top half of the Sky Bet Championship and even looked like a decent bet for the play-offs at times.
While that bid for the play-offs ended up being unsuccessful, their eventual 11th place finish was nothing to be sniffed at and will be seen as a great building block for next season. Johnson was able to build a good squad for this season and he will be hopeful of keeping them together for next season. If he does manage that and adds some more quality, there’s plenty of reason to believe that the Robins will end up in the top six next season. However Johnson may end up being the most valuable member of the club if this uptick in form continues.
