Bolton Wanderers hero Wilbraham hails best moment of his career

Aaron Wilbraham will go down in Bolton Wanderers folklore, as his 88th minute goal saved the Trotters from relegation.

The veteran striker has hailed his goal against Nottingham Forest as the best moment of his long career.

Bolton led in the 67th minute through Adam Le Fondre, and with results going their way – Bolton looked safe.

However, strikes from Ben Osborn and Jack Colback put Forest ahead at the Macron, and set the Wanderers fans into meltdown.

David Wheater restored hope in the 87th minute, and just moments later Wilbraham popped up to nick a late winner.

It’s a win which sees the Whites playing in the Championship again next season.

It’s been a frustrating season in front of goal for the 38 year old since his summer move from Bristol City, but he scored the most important goal of Bolton’s season.

Speaking to the club website, he said “It was unbelievable – I’ve never concentrated so much on a ball in my entire career.

“I tired to guide it across goal and seeing the ball hit the back of the net…just wow!

“When I first came to the club I wasn’t fit enough, but as much as the moans and groans, there has been a lot of positivity and fans wishing me well.

“My goal today is the best moment of my career.”

At 38 years old, Wilbraham is coming to the end of his footballing career.

Having only signed a one year deal with the Trotters, it is unclear where his future lies.

“I’ve said to the lads and the manager that I want to play until I’m 40.

“I train every day, I don’t take days off and I want the squad to know that I am ready if I’m wanted.”

It’ll be an interesting summer for the forward, who will want to keep playing at the highest level he can.
