Bradford City manager favourite for Scunthorpe job

Simon Grayson has emerged as the bookies’ favourite to become the next permanent manager of Sky Bet League One side Scunthorpe United, despite only taking charge of Bradford City in February.

Sky Bet currently have Grayson at 9/4, whilst former Peterborough United boss Grant McCann is second favourite at 5/2.

Simon Grayson has been in charge of Bradford City for just a matter of months following his departure from Sunderland earlier this season. He took the Sunderland job shortly after the Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League, and decided to leave Preston North End.

The Lilywhites did not miss Grayson, as new boss Alex Neil has made them Play-Off contenders in the second tier, something that Grayson failed to do during his time at the club.

Scunthorpe sacked Graham Alexander last month, despite being fifth in Sky Bet League One. Caretaker manager Nicky Daws has done a good job, and following the Irons’ 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle in midweek, their place in the Play-Offs are confirmed.

It is the second season in a row that they find themselves in the Play-Offs. Last year they were defeated by eventual winners Millwall.

Simon Grayson has a track record of achieving promotion from the third tier. In fact, he has previously led four different clubs out of Sky Bet League One.

These four teams are Blackpool, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, and Preston North End.

It remains unclear whether or not Grayson has any interest in leaving Bradford, but things have not gone very well for the Yorkshire born manager.
