Newcastle United weighing up move for Hull City star

Newcastle United are weighing up a summer move for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, according to the Daily Mail.

The Uruguayan striker is out of contract in the summer and could leave Hull on a free transfer. He has been linked with Scottish Premier League giants Celtic as well as various Italian Serie A sides, but Premier League side Newcastle have now joined the race for him.

Their manager, Rafa Benitez, has worked wonders with the North-East club this season and is keen to bolster his squad ahead of another Premier League campaign next season.

Abel Hernandez is a potential signing and despite being out injured for much of this season, he has come back into Hull’s recently and has scored 7 goals in the 9 games he has played in this campaign.

The 27-year-old striker joined the Tigers in 2014 from Palermo for around £10 million. Despite initially struggling with life in England in his first year when Hull were relegated from the top flight, he managed to score 22 goals for Hull in the 2015/16 season to help fire them back into the Premier League.

He only scored 4 goals last season in the Premier League and Hull went down again which left many question whether he has what it takes to play in the Premier League. Nevertheless, he has shown in the games he has played for Hull in the Championship over recent weeks that he is on top form.
