Sunderland boss could leave relegated Black Cats for Championship side

Ipswich Town are showing an interest in Sunderland manager Chris Coleman, according to the Mirror.

The 47-year-old has been unable to prevent Sunderland from dropping into League One and could be offered an escape route by Ipswich.

Coleman joined the Black Cats in November after Simon Grayson was sacked but has struggled to make an impact at the Stadium of Light and after their relegation to the third tier, his long-term future at the club is in real doubt.

Ipswich Town are in the hunt for a new manager for next season after Mick McCarthy left and could target Coleman. They have also been linked with Lincoln City’s Danny Cowley, Luton Town’s Nathan Jones and Blackburn Rovers’ Tony Mowbray, but may now have found their man in Coleman.

Coleman has previously had managerial spells at Fulham, Coventry City, Real Sociedad and Greek side AEL but his most successful time was with the Wales national team. He guided his country to the Semi-Finals of the Euro 2016 in France.

He left Wales in November after they failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia this summer and took the Sunderland job two days later. You get the impression he rushed into the Black Cats’ job too quickly and that it was an impossible job for him.

Chris Coleman deserves another chance in the Championship and could be a very shrewd appointment by Ipswich Town.
