Leeds United boss welcomes back former club to Elland Road

Barnsley travel to Elland Road on Saturday for a reunion with former boss Paul Heckingbottom.

With just four games to go, Barnsley travel to Leeds United in a hotly anticipated Yorkshire derby, with a much sought after three points at stake for the Reds.

Barnsley are just two points off safety, and still have a game in hand on their closest rivals Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers. The Tykes will fancy their chances against their old manager, as his new side have failed to find any sort of form since Heckingbottom took over. The 40-year-old has only won two of his thirteen games in charge at Elland Road and the pressure is mounting, a defeat could well see Andrea Radrizzani relieve him of his duties.

Leeds are without a win in their last four game, suffering three defeats and one draw. However, the Whites could be boosted by the return of defensive pairing Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper, with Adam Forshaw also pushing for a recall. No team has won fewer points in 2018 than Leeds, who have only picked up twelve this calendar year.

Barnsley rescued a late draw against fellow strugglers Bolton last time out. In form Oli McBurnie scored in stoppage time to rescue a point for the Reds. The last time Barnsley won away from Oakwell was at St Andrews in February where McBurnie grabbed a double, and Tykes fans will be hoping the Leeds-born striker can help get one over on his hometown club. Fortunately for Barnsley, there are no fresh injury concerns, with Adam Jackson and Brad Potts pushing to be fit.

Barnsley haven’t won at Leeds since 2011, and Leeds United are unbeaten in their last three games against Barnsley at Elland Road. The Tykes will be hoping to break a seven-year winless run against their Yorkshire neighbours and claim a crucial three points in their fight for survival.
