Charlton Athletic lose key defender for the rest of the season with injury

Injured Charlton Athletic defender Chris Solly will not be fit to feature for the club for the rest of the season according to reports by News Shopper.

The 27-year-old Rochester born full-back has made 28 appearances in all competitions for The Addicks this season but the player has not featured for the South East Londoners since picking up a knee injury during the 1-0 defeat to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road last month.

It has been revealed that Solly will undergo surgery on his knee later this week and the player will not return to training until the squad report back for their pre-season programme in early July.

The loss of their captain comes as a bitter blow for Charlton Athletic with The Addicks currently competing for a place in the end of season play-offs. The club are two points adrift of sixth place with four games remaining, although they have lost their last two matches without Solly’s presence in the side.

Solly came through the youth ranks at The Valley and the defender has gone on to establish himself in The Addicks first team throughout the last decade. The defender has made 260 senior appearances for the club in total and has twice been awarded the Charlton Athletic Player of the Year award.
