PREVIEW: Wigan Athletic v Oxford United

Sky Bet League One leaders Wigan Athletic will hope to take another step towards a return to the Sky Bet Championship this evening when Oxford United are the visitors to the DW Stadium.

The Latics have a five-point cushion on Shrewsbury Town who occupy the first play-off spot and Paul Cook’s men are likely to need a maximum of two more wins to make sure of their place in the second tier next term.

The home side go into the match with no new injury concerns following Saturday’s goalless draw with Rotherham United at the DW Stadium. Manager Paul Cook will have a fully fit squad to choose form for the match and could opt to make one or two minor changes to his starting XI.

Visitors Oxford United make the long trip north on the back of a 2-0 home victory over Southend United on Saturday. That win was the first for new United boss Karl Robinson who has admitted that he could opt to rotate his squad for this evening’s fixture with big games against Doncaster Rovers and Rochdale on the horizon.

Defensive duo Curtis Nelson and Aaron Martin may start for The Yellows along with Curacaoan winger Gino van Kessel. Rob Hall could make the squad for the first time in this calendar year, while Canice Carroll, Ashley Smith-Brown and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts are all pushing for starts.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7.45pm with tickets available on the night for both sets of supporters.
