Will Latics goal machine Grigg remain at the DW Stadium next season?

Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg is just four goals short of equalling his best ever seasonal goal tally with 24 goals in 47 games in all competitions for The Latics this season.

The 26-year-old Solihull born goal machine has bagged six goals for his club in his last four outings and with the player set to command some transfer interest in the summer, we assess the chances of Grigg being a Wigan Athletic player again next season.

The Northern Ireland international is seemingly happy at the DW Stadium and he signed a new two-year deal with the Lancashire club in September to extend his contract until summer 2020. Wigan Athletic look likely to return to the Sky Bet Championship next season which will provide Grigg with the boost of testing himself in the second tier of English football for just the second time in his career.

Grigg may not be deemed good enough for the English Premier League but the player will naturally want to play in the Sky Bet Championship again and with his current club poised to achieve promotion, there is little need for the player to look for a move elsewhere.

English Football League sponsors Sky Bet agree that Grigg will still be a Wigan Athletic player come August. The betting firm list Grigg at 1/3 on to remain at the DW Stadium. The likes of former club Brentford (14/1) and Bristol City (16/1) would be the most likely sides to move for the striker. A transfer to a top flight club for Grigg is priced at a huge 33/1.

Grigg’s goalscoring exploits for Wigan Athletic has made him something of a club legend. The frontman has bagged 47 league goals for The Latics and another prolific season for the club next term could see him close in on record league goalscorer Andy Liddell’s tally of 70.
