Birmingham City facing striker shortage ahead of Brewers clash

Birmingham City must deal with a striker shortage if they are to overcome fellow Sky Bet Championship strugglers Burton Albion at St Andrew’s on Saturday according to Birmingham Live.

The Blues are eight points clear of their latest opponents with Burton Albion being the division’s bottom club.

An upturn in form has seen the Blues climb out of the relegation zone and Garry Monk’s men are looking good to retain their second tier status once again.

On Tuesday evening, they battled to a 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at The Macron Stadium but that victory came at a cost with striker Che Adams being sent off for a challenge on Craig Noone. Birmingham City lodged an appeal for that dismissal, however it was rejected and the player will now miss the showdown clash with The Brewers.

Another forward who will be absent from the squad is on loan Southampton striker Sam Gallagher. The player has been struggling with a calf problem for a few weeks and is not yet ready to return to action.

The fixture against Burton Albion is a huge one for the Blues with the club possibly able to move eight points clear of the relegation zone depending on results elsewhere. Birmingham City fans will be hoping for a more relaxed end to the season this term than the one experienced in 2016/2017 when a final day victory over Bristol City ensured their survival.
