Sheffield Wednesday fans were delighted as they got a third win in a row after beating Sunderland 3-1.
The Owls have been poor this season but just as they were starting to fear that they might end up getting relegated from the Sky Bet Championship things have picked up. Before the international break they beat Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 2-1 and got another win on Good Friday with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Preston North End.
And that good form continued when they traveled to the Stadium of Light today. After a goalless first half, things started to improve in the second half. The opening goal came when Barry Bannan sent a cross into the far post with Atdhe Nuhiu heading the ball down to Lucas Joao who then smashed in. However that lead did not last for long as George Honeyman headed in for an equaliser just two minutes later.
Earlier in the season Wednesday would have crumbled after that reply but this time they rallied and managed to get the lead back. With a free kick, Joey Pelupessy sent in a great ball and Tom Lees was there to score from close range. And the game was sealed later on with another good quality cross, this time from Adam Reach, with Joao’s first shot being saved but followed up by Nuhiu for the third of the game.
With Wednesday fans being used to the team being rather terrible this season, they were delighted to get another win even if it was against another team that has been bad this season.
Joao and Nuhiu are on 🔥 #swfc
