Aston Villa to battle with Arsenal to sign Shrewsbury Town loanee

Aston Villa and Arsenal are to battle it out to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to the Express.

The 21-year-old shot stopper is currently on loan at League One side Shrewsbury Town but is set to leave Manchester United on a permanent deal in the summer. He is ready to leave Old Trafford in the summer for the sake of his career.

He has been in fine form for Paul Hurst’s Shrewsbury Town this season. He has been a key player for them as they have defied all the odds this campaign and are in contention for a promotion to the Championship, despite being one of the bookies favourites for relegation in pre-season.

Henderson played for Carlisle United as a youngster but joined Manchester United in 2005. He has had loan spells at Stockport County, Grimsby Town and now Shrewsbury. He has also represented England at U16. U17, U20 and U21 level.

With his long-term career at United in doubt, Championship side Aston Villa are showing an interest in signing him in the summer. They currently have Sam Johnstone as their number one goalkeeper on loan from Manchester United, however they may face tough competition from West Ham to sign him on a permanent basis.

Premier League giants Arsenal are also interested in luring Henderson from Old Trafford. They may see him as one for the future and Henderson may feel his first-team prospects would be greater at Arsenal. This is certainly a story to keep an eye on over the next couple of months.
