Odds shorten for former boss to return to Charlton Athletic

The odds for a return to Charlton Athletic for Chris Powell have shortened to 2/1 on SkyBet.

He is currently the manager of their League One rivals Southend United and it would be a surprise to see him leave them for a return to Charlton.

Crawley Town manager Harry Kewell is still the favourite for the vacant position with his odds on a move to the Valley priced at 4/9. Lee Bowyer is currently in caretaker charge and his odds are 7/1.

Chris Powell took charge of Southend in January and it would be a shock to see him leave them after less than three months at the helm. However, he has managed Charlton before and had two successful spells there as a player.

The 48-year-old guided the Addicks to the League One title in 2012 and was a popular manager amongst their fans. Since leaving them in 2014, Powell has gone onto manage Huddersfield Town and has also worked as the assistant manager of Derby County.

Charlton are on the outskirts of the League One Play-Offs and are currently looking for a manager after Karl Robinson left his role as boss to take charge of Oxford United. Chris Powell is a potential candidate, but it is unlikely that he would leave Southend at this moment.

Harry Kewell is still the favourite and the Australian boss could swap League Two for League One next season.
