Grant McCann is the new 11/10 favourite for the Scunthorpe United job on SkyBet.

The League One side sacked Graham Alexander after a poor run of results, despite the club being 5th in the league. Nick Daws has been placed in caretaker charge, with Andy Dawson as his assistant.

Daws was the early front-runner for the job and he has already been in this position before prior to Graham Alexander’s appointment. Other contenders were former Fleetwood Town manager Uwe Rosler, Steve Cotterill, Paul Musselwhite and Craig Bellamy.

However, there is a new favourite for the role and that is Grant McCann. He was sacked by Scunthorpe’s League One rivals Peterborough United in February after no wins in seven matches.

The 37-year-old has only been the manager of Peterborough so far in his managerial career and took charge of the Posh in May 2016. He guided them to an 11th place finish last season.

McCann spent two years playing for the Scunthorpe United from 2008 to 2010 in his playing days. He also played for the likes of Peterborough, West Ham United, Cheltenham Town, Barnsley and Linfield, as well as being a Northern Ireland international with 39 caps to his name.

He would be a decent appointment by Scunthorpe United. He certainly deserves another chance in football and the Iron job would be a great opportunity for his to get back into the game.
