The season isn’t yet over, the transfer window not anywhere near opening, yet there is already talk of players supposedly incoming at Elland Road.
Without a shadow of a doubt, there is a definite need for fresh blood to be brought in to the club as they look to rebound from what is quickly turning out to be a damp squib of a season. Leeds United fans have seen a promising start and a table-topping team spiral downhill in a mudslide of form that now has them languishing in 14th place in the table.
However, that hasn’t stopped the club being linked with players both at home and abroad. One of the players who the Whites have been linked with is Benfica’s starlet winger Diogo Goncalves, according to Portuguese publication Record. In their article, of which there is an in-tweet image below, Record say that the promising youngster is “in the sights of Leeds.”
Those sights might be ever finer tuned after Goncalves’ display Portugal Under-21s 7-0 thrashing of their Lichtenstein counterparts. In a game where the result wasn’t much in doubt, the Benfica starlet stepped right up to the mark and smashed a hat-trick past outclassed opponents. Goncalves’ triple salvo (3′, 31′ and 63′) saw the youngster move to five goals in five games for the Under-21s – a more than handy return.
The highly rated youngster has been at Benfica since 2008, signing on as a nine-year-old from FC Ferreiras’s junior side. He’s progressed through the age groups at the Estádio da Luz, breaking in to the first team set-up this season. He has featured in seven Liga NOS games this season, creating two assists, and has featured in eight other games, including four in the Champions League for the Portuguese giants.
