Charlton Athletic, Addicks owner rejected manager’s offer to quit

Addicks owner rejected manager’s offer to quit

Unpopular Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet has rejected manager Karl Robinson’s resignation in the past couple of weeks according to News Shopper.

The 37-year-old former MK Dons boss has been at the helm at The Valley since November 2016 and the Liverpudlian has taken charge of The Addicks on 74 occasions.

It has now been revealed that Robinson recently handed in his resignation to club owner Duchatelet but the Belgian rejected his offer to step down. It is thought that Robinson was ready to resign after his side lost 4-1 to Peterborough United at the ABAX Stadium 10 days ago.

The Addicks boss has faced a frustrating period in charge at The Valley in which the club’s activity in the transfer market has been severely restricted. With Charlton Athletic currently in the middle of a takeover saga, Robinson had to bolster his squad with loan signings during the January transfer window and was unable to call upon any  financial backing from outgoing owner Duchatelet.

Results have also been a disappointing factor for Robinson with his side having collected just one point from their last four league matches, a poor sequence which has seen The Addicks fall behind in the race for a play-off place.

For now, Robinson remains Charlton Athletic manager but these continue to be turbulent times for the Sky Bet League One club with a long-awaited takeover yet to be completed.
