One of Aston Villa’s top prospects signs new deal

Young Aston Villa defender Mitchell Clark has signed a new one-year deal with the Sky Bet Championship club according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 19-year-old Welshman was due to become a free agent with Villa this summer but will now spend a further year at Villa Park.

Clark is regarded as one of Aston Villa’s top young prospects and news that the player has agreed to remain with the club has handed them a huge boost.

The defender has already made his first team debut for Villa, Clark played at left-back as his side won 4-1 against Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup back in August. The player has since resumed his role with the Villa Development Squad and has starred at under-23 level as the club have impressed in the Premier League 2 Division 2. Clark has provided under-23s coach Kevin MacDonald with versatility with the player able to play in a handful of defensive positions.

The Wales Under-19 international came through the youth ranks at Villa Park after joining the club at a young age. Clark was one of the top performers for Villa at under-18 level just a couple of seasons ago with that form leading to his rapid rise into the under-23s and to the fringes of the first team squad.
