CHAMPIONSHIP: Five things we learnt from this weekend’s action

4) Birmingham show signs of improvement under Monk

Despite having no points to show for it, Birmingham City appear to be showing signs that they will be able to escape their current relegation troubles. Gary Monk was appointed on a three and-a-half year deal earlier this month and has already shown Blues supporters why they don’t need to worry. Losses to Middlesbrough and then Cardiff on Saturday have seen Blues slide into the bottom three. However, two second half goals as well as numerous chances to take a point against second placed Cardiff suggest that Monk could keep the Blues in the Sky Bet Championship.

5) Sunderland look as good as down

Despite only being relegated from the Premier League less than 12 months ago, it looks like Sunderland fans may experience yet another relegation. Currently sat bottom of the Sky Bet Championship with 28 points this season, the Black Cats perhaps need a miracle to not be playing League One football next season. Despite some early promise from new boss Chris Coleman, Sunderland picked up yet another defeat on the road at the hands of QPR on Saturday.
