Lower league club offer “massive contract” for former two-time UEFA Cup winner

Notts County are sitting pretty in 4th place in League Two, comfortably in the play-off picture and within sniffing distance of the automatic promotion places. However they could be about to push on according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter (below).

According to Nixon, the Magpies are about to launch an audacious bid to bring former Sevilla winger Diego Capel to Meadow Lane and the fourth tier of English football.

Diego Capel

Nixon says in the tweet from his personal Twitter account that Capel, who has 61 Spanish youth caps at all age ranges from U16 to U21 as well as two full Spain caps, is being offered a “massive contract” to try to convince him to sign on at the 156-year-old club after his release by RSC Anderlecht.

Prior to his release, 30-year-old Capel has a raft of top-tier appearances to his name: 127 games in La Liga for Sevilla (six goals/12 assists), 99 games in Portugal’s Liga NOS for Sporting (10 goals/17 assists), 21 games in Serie A for Genoa and 14 appearances in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League for Anderlecht.

A move as audacious as this by Notts County would usually be dismissed out-of-hand by most, if not all, observers but Nixon reckons that it is a move that has legs. Should the Magpies be able to convince the Spanish, Portuguese and two-time UEFA cup winner to sign for them, then he is likely a player who would tear up the league in its latter stages.
