Dutch Eredivisie clubs targeting Reading boss Jaap Stam

Eredivisie side Vitesse are interested in appointing Reading boss Jaap Stam as their new manager, according to the Dutch news outlet De Gerlander.

It is also now believed that SC Heerenveen are also showing a keen interest in the Championship manager.

Stam’s Reading side have underperformed this season and many fans have been frustrated with him. An escape route back to Holland may be very appealing to him.

Vitesse are in the hunt for a new manager and are being linked with Stam. They have also been linked with a move for former CSKA Moscow, Russia and Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky. The Russian will have the edge over Stam in the race for the Vitesse job due to his links with Chelsea owner Roman Abramhovic. The Dutch side are a feeder club for the Premier League giants.

SC Heerenveen are the other side being mentioned. They are currently 9th in the Eredivisie and two places below Vitesse.

Stam moved to Reading before the start of last season and guided them to the Championship Play-Off final in his first season. They narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League by losing their penalty shootout to Huddersfield Town.

He had a successful playing career playing for the likes of PSV, Manchester United, AC Milan and Ajax. He then went onto work as a coach at FC Zwolle, Ajax and Jong Ajax before getting the job at Reading. The Royal’s fans are starting to lose patience with him now and a move back to Holland looks to be on the cards.
