Serie A side Genoa in talks to sign Hull City striker

Italian side Genoa are reportedly in talks to sign Hull City striker Abel Hernandez in the summer, according to Football Italia.

The Uruguayan international is set to leave the Tigers in the summer with his contract expiring at the end of this season. This means he is free to leave them for nothing.

The 27 year-old has been ruled out for much of this season due to injury but is ready to make a return to Hull’s first-team over the next couple of weeks. This is a timely boost for the Tigers in their battle to stay in the Championship and avoid a relegation to the third tier.

They may have to resign to losing Hernandez in the summer though with it looking increasingly likely that he will not be staying at Hull City. Italian Serie A side Genoa reportedly have him firmly on their radar and are in talks to bring him back to Italy.

Hull signed Hernandez for a fee of around £10 million from Palermo. He took a while to adapt to life in England and could not prevent the Tigers from being relegated in his first season. Nevertheless, he scored 22 goals in the Championship in the following campaign and helped them return to the top flight immediately under Steve Bruce.

He again struggled in the Premier League last season but there is no doubt that Hernandez is one of the most prolific striker in the Championship when he is fit. He will be a huge loss to Hull if he does leave at the expiry of his contract.
