Sky Bet Championship high-flyers Aston Villa could receive a late boost in their quest for promotion with star striker Jonathan Kodjia having taken up light training with a football according to the Birmingham Mail.
The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international hotshot has not featured for Villa since October with the player having undergone surgery on a long-standing ankle problem.
Early indications had suggested that Kodjia would not pull on a Villa shirt again this season, however, the Ivorian goal machine has taken to social media to show himself doing some ball work and the fans’ hopes of seeing the player return to the starting XI before the end of the campaign may not be over just yet.
Kodjia joined Aston Villa in August 2016 in a reported £11 million deal from Sky Bet Championship rivals Bristol City, a sum which could yet rise by a further £4 million.
The striker soon became a hit at Villa Park and the player scored 19 goals for Villa in his first season with the club to almost single-handedly help steer his new side away from any possible threat of back-to-back relegations after their drop from the top flight in 2015/2016.
Kodjia has long been troubled by an ankle injury and the player has scored just once in nine outings for Villa this season prior to being ruled out of action for the long term.
The race for automatic promotion in the Sky Bet Championship could well go down to the wire but the return of Kodjia before the end of the season would hand Villa a significant boost.
