Sky Bet League One club Oxford United could be set to move closer to appointing a new manager with former Cardiff City striker Craig Bellamy now heavily odds-on to fill the vacancy according to the latest odds for English Football League sponsors Sky Bet.
The 38-year-old Welshman has long been linked with the managerial vacancy at the Kassam Stadium with Oxford United looking to replace former boss Pep Clotet who was sacked last month.
Bellamy was listed with odds of around 8/13 to become United’s new manager earlier this week however the latest odds from English Football League sponsors Sky Bet now have the former Liverpool and Manchester City frontman priced at 1/5.
Since hanging up his boots in summer 2014, Bellamy has helped coach with the Cardiff City academy. He is thought to be looking to get into senior football management and was recently linked with the Wales international job although former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs was eventually placed into that role.
Oxford United have been linked with a number of potential managerial candidates in recent weeks. Everton Under-23 coach David Unsworth is thought to have rejected the opportunity to take charge of the Sky Bet League One club while The U’s are rumoured to have held talks with former Hibernian and Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs earlier this week.
