Barnsley’s top managerial target to be offered new deal

Scottish Championship club St Mirren will offer manager Jack Ross and new and improved contract at the Paisley 2021 Stadium in a bid to fend of the interest in his services from Barnsley according to the Daily Record.

The managerless Sky Bet Championship club are believed to have held talks with Ross earlier this week as they look to replace former manager Paul Heckingbottom who opted to leave Oakwell to take up the managerial vacancy at Leeds United.

Ross is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in the Scottish game and with St Mirren desperate to hold on to the 41-year-old, it has been reported that the Paisley-based club will offer a new deal to their manager.

The job which Ross has done in a little over 16 months with The Buddies has been nothing short of remarkable. The club looked destined for relegation from the Scottish Championship when he took the job during last season but Ross guided St Mirren to safety before seeing his side top the division this term.

St Mirren are currently 14 points clear of Livingston in second place and are likely to be promoted back to the top flight for the first time since 2015.

Should Ross opt to swap St Mirren for Barnsley, the young manager will have a tough job in keeping the South Yorkshire club in the Sky Bet Championship. The Tykes have won just once in 16 league outings and have fallen into the relegation zone.
