5 potential candidates to replace Russell Slade as manager of Grimsby Town

League Two side Grimsby Town find themselves looking for a new manager after sacking Russell Slade. The Mariners are currently 17th in the league, here are 5 potential candidates for the job-

Paul Wilkinson- The 53 year-old has been placed in temporary charge of Grimsby whilst they look for a new manager. He played for them as a player and could be offered the job if he performs well. He has previously worked as a coach at Leeds United, Cardiff City, Northampton and Barnsley.

Gary Caldwell- The Scottish boss has been in the hunt for a new job since being sacked by Chesterfield since September. He previously guided Wigan to the League One title in 2016 and deserves another chance at a club. Could Grimsby tempt him?

Dougie Freedman- The former Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest manager has not been in charge of a side since March 2016. He currently works at Palace but is being touted as an outsider for the Grimsby job. The question is though would he drop to League Two to get back into the game?

Phil Brown- The experienced boss has recently been sacked by Southend United. His best performance as a manager came at Hull City where he guided them to the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2008 and kept them up the year after.

Stuart McCall- The 53 year-old is in the hunt for a new job after being sacked by Bradford City. There could be an opportunity to manage Grimsby and get back into the game quickly. However, this may be too soon.
