Birmingham City considering move for 33 year-old left-back

Birmingham City are considering a move for left-back Kieron Richardson, according to Vital Birmingham City.

The Blues are in the hunt for a new left-back as a replacement for the injured Jonathan Grounds and to provide some competition to Cohen Bramhall. They are considering a move for Kieron Richardson, who is available on a free transfer.

The 33 year-old has been without a club since being released by Cardiff City in December 2016. He had a trial with Spanish side Granada last season under Tony Adams but did not earn a contract.

He is a vastly experienced and has made over 300 career appearances. He would not be a bad option for Birmingham but there will be questions over his fitness.

Kieron Richardson is a familiar name amongst the English football fan. He started his career at Manchester United before spells at West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Fulham and most recently Cardiff City. He has also made 8 caps for England.

Birmingham City have struggled so far this season and find themselves in another relegation scrap to avoid dropping into League One. It has been the case on a couple of occasions now where the Blues have come almightily close to the relegation. However, they have been in decent form recently under Steve Cotterill and are currently out of the bottom three.

The injury to their first choice left-back Jonathan Grounds will not help their survival chances and they will need to bring someone in as cover. Kieron Richardson is an option but there are also other options out there as well.
