Despite the poor showing in extra time, Birmingham head coach Steve Cotterill was pleased with a battling performance.

He told the club website: “We did well. We kept it tight until half-time, which is what we wanted to do – to make sure we weren’t out of the tie in the first-half. In the second-half we opened up, got the goal that we were looking for, then we didn’t need them to score really. We didn’t need this game going into extra-time. Eight of those lads out there tonight haven’t played 90 minutes on a regular basis for a long time. Going into extra-time was always going to be a tall order for them.”
